2017 Quickstick Lacrosse Tournament postponed until Aug. 26-27 due to Breckenridge wildfires
Special to the Daily
BRECKENRIDGE — Even lacrosse players are falling victim to the elements this summer.
On July 7, just a day before the original start of the Quickstick Lacrosse Tournament in Breckenridge, tournament officials announced that the competitive adult tourney had been postponed due to wildfire concerns across Summit County, including an 80-acre fire north of town at Peak 2 and a smaller, newer fire spotted east of town on Bald Mountain.
The tournament has been rescheduled for Aug. 26-27 and new teams can now register until Aug. 23 for a fee of $600.
Along with the lacrosse tourney, wildfires across the state have forced officials with the Triple Bypass cycling tour to cancel this year’s event. The Peak 2 fire was first spotted on Wednesday, July 5 and the Bald Mountain fire was spotted on Friday afternoon.
