’21st Century Slavery: Survivors and Abolitionists’ on Thursday at CMC

Colorado Mountain College presents Emmy Award-winning journalist, Tamara Banks on “21st Century Slavery: Survivors and Abolitionists” on Thursday, Oct. 7 from 7-8 p.m. at the CMC Auditorium in Breckenridge.

Banks just returned from her third trip to the Sudan/Darfur region where she continues to report on the issue of slavery being used as a tool of genocide. “The Long Journey Home,” a documentary short, is the story about this atrocity and the abolitionists risking their lives to free slaves.

Banks has won numerous journalism awards for her work including an Emmy from the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, the Colorado Broadcasters Association, Associated Press and the National Association of Black Journalists just to name a few. Currently she is using her expertise to evoke positive social change in our community locally and globally through excellence in journalism and civic engagement. Banks hopes her work as a journalist and exposing slavery and genocide will lead to systemic change in Sudan and around the world.

Register in advance or at the door at CMC. The course code is SYN 53978 and cost is $10 (free for CMC students). For more info, visit http://www.coloradomtn.edu/summit or call (970) 453-6757, ext. 2614.
