3 killed after SUV heads wrong way on I-25

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) – The Colorado State Patrol says three people are dead after an SUV traveling the wrong way on southbound Interstate 25 south of Colorado Springs struck another SUV head on.

Troopers say they suspect alcohol played a role in the crash around 1 a.m. Saturday.

The State Patrol says it received three separate reports of a vehicle heading the wrong way near Fountain, but the SUV had already crashed when a trooper found it.

The crash killed the driver of Toyota SUV that was going the wrong way and the driver and passenger in the Acura SUV that was hit. Their names weren’t immediately released.

I-25 was closed for about five hours early Saturday while troopers investigated the crash.
