A 27 percent voter turnout is pitiful and an insult to the country

Bill Bauer, Silverthorne

The statistic you cited, 27 percent of eligible Summit County voters casting ballots in this election, while a 10 percent improvement, is absolutely pitiful and an insult to our country.

In my lifetime, the only legitimate time not to vote was the 1968 presidential election, a time in American history when a nonvoting protest made a point.

It no longer does. I say to nonvoters, unless you are on your death bed or otherwise incapacitated, get up off your lazy arses, be informed about the issues, and despite work, family and other life pressures, make voting a priority.

As American citizens, voting is your responsibility. Otherwise, you have no right to complain and moan.
