A-Basin urges late arrivals to use shuttle

ARAPAHOE BASIN – Officials at the last local ski area still standing are urging customers to beware of parking difficulties at the base and a shuttle now running back and forth between the ski resort and Keystone’s River Run parking lot for overflow.Arapahoe Basin is 99 percent open with a robust 60-inch base midway, which means good spring skiing conditions await skiers and boarders who still haven’t gotten enough.”If you are not able to make it to the ski area prior to 10 a.m. on a Saturday or Sunday until closing day, we suggest taking the shuttle from Keystone,” general manager Jim Gentling said. “It’s convenient and there is no worry of having to squeeze illegally into a spot along the highway where you will be towed.”Colorado State Patrol Capt. Ron Prater is concerned about the parking situation on Highway 6 adjacent to the ski area.”Oversized loads and hazardous material vehicles must be routed over Highway 6 past the ski area,” Prater said.”We must keep the highway open and we have a zero-tolerance policy in effect when vehicles are parked along the highway,” he added. “These vehicles will be towed.”The free shuttle will run from 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in May and also on Monday, Memorial Day.A-Basin also encourages skiers and riders to carpool. Fill a vehicle with four people or more, take them all to the ticket window (even if some of them have passes) and receive a discounted lift ticket for those in the car who need a ticket for only $30.A-Basin is scheduled to close for the season on June 5.A-Basin is scheduled to close for the season on June 5.
