A new meaning of "conservative"

Mike Cockrell, Silverthorne

RE: Nelson Alexander’s letter on March 9.I won’t bore you with data on global warming – we already know what happens in an atmosphere like ours when carbon and other gas increase; it’s simple physics, and quite undeniable, unless of course you’re a “conservative.” Speaking of “unverifiable belief systems” (Nelson’s phrase), readers should note how many self-regarding conservatives don’t believe in conserving anything – whether that be nature, social infrastructure, or the Earth’s gifts to us – except their own ideology, and if they’re part of the Rich White Ruling Class, their own wealth and power. As to Nelson running cars in his driveway to “skew the data,” his claim to being “conservative” is utterly false. Meanwhile, I anxiously await the day, perhaps not far off, when gasoline is five bucks a gallon; it’s the only way America will become truly conservative.
