A safer community

Jeanie Ringelberg

On behalf of the Board of Directors and Summit Prevention Alliance, I would like to applaud and thank Summit County Government and the Summit Stage for starting late night bus service on March 3. As an organization that works to prevent impaired driving, Summit Prevention Alliance, through the Drunk Driving Prevention Committee, supports efforts promoting responsible alcohol service, enforcement, and alternative rides including late night bus service and Tipsy Taxi.

Summit Prevention Alliance believes the extended hours of the Summit Stage have benefited our community. From March 3 to March 31, Summit Stage late night bus service accommodated 2,200 passengers from 12:30 a.m.until the end of service. While many factors influence the decrease or increase in the number of DUI arrests, March DUI arrests for Summit County decreased 30 percent compared to last year.

As our summers become busier and tourism and traffic increase, Summit Prevention Alliance feels that late night bus service is just as important in the summer to our county as it is in the winter. We have promoted late night service in the past and will continue to do so, educating both residents and visitors about alternative ride options at night. Again, thanks to the Transit Board and Board of County Commissioners for implementing Summit Stage late night bus service in time for spring break and thank you for continuing it year-round.

Executive Director, Summit Prevention Alliance
