Abrams: Sirota column misleading

Chuck Abrams,

Re. “Paul Ryan: Huge Gov’t Republican” by David Sirota, Aug. 20

I would hope that the management of the Summit Daily News would encourage their contributing editorial writers to check there facts before submitting there articles. And wouldn’t it be wonderful to hear a “solution” rather than their sharp criticism’s that have so “polarized” this country.

David Sirota’s in his article “Paul Ryan Huge Gov’t Republican” wrote that Mr. Ryan according to The Atlantic magazine, would eliminate the federal income tax on capital gains, interest and dividends, and that wealthy investors like Mitt Romney would pay less than 1% of their annual earnings in fderal taxes.

That Is simply not true If you read the proposed legislation, it clearly states that these taxes would be eliminated on incomes of $250,000 or less. Mr. Sirota has clearly mislead his reading audience.

Now I’m reasonably sure that Mr. Sirota is not the only one who has “confused the facts” given our current political climate. Rather than criticize your opponents ideas, tell us what your solution to a problem is. We certainly have enough problems to keep us busy for quite awhile.

I’ll go 1st with what I think would be a solution with long term benefits. Let’s invoke “Term Limits” on all elected officials, including the Supreme Court, and grant them no special privileges, or exempt them from programs such as health care, social security, etc. Hopefully over time this would eliminate the cronyism and “lust for power” that has infected our political arena. Lets get some people that truly want to serve.
