Ad conjures up worst possibilities

Regarding the Breckenridge Ski Resort’s new advertising campaign: If this so-called ad was written by 13- or 14-year-olds, then that explains it? Perhaps it was.

Let’s see if I got it right, being the “disapproving mother” type. We want to encourage irresponsible male kids to come to Breckenridge to snowboard wildly all day and then engage in underage drinking, recreational drug use, playful fornication and exhilarating brawling in our friendly streets at night.

And, of course, they will have lots of money to spend here -that’s the whole point, isn’t it? – because they probably ripped off some unsuspecting tourist earlier in the day.

Actually, the ad would be amusing as a “Saturday Night Live” skit; but, as a reality – are you sure this isn’t an April Fool’s joke? – it is truly an obscenity.

I can see the headlines: “Jury awards plaintiff $20 million after rape victim sues town for raunchy ad.”

Story: “After a 20-year-old ski lift operator was gang-raped by three drunken teen-agers on her way home after work, she sued the town of Breckenridge.

“During the criminal trial the defendants had cited an ad which brought them to the town to experience “over-the-top, wide-open night life,’ and “raucous nocturnal insanity’ in a town which “will be your bitch.’

“The juvenile offenders stated that they read the ad as an invitation to “go huge’ and not to be governed by any parental restraints or societal inhibitions. After the defendants were found guilty, the victim sued the city.

“In awarding her the sum of $20 million the jury forewoman stated, “It’s amazing what people will do for the almighty dollar. No wonder our country is under attack. Maybe we deserve it?'”

Don’t laugh. Submitted with what remains of my dignity,
