Adams County to investigate construction contracts

BRIGHTON – An Adams County government official is accused of awarding millions of dollars in contracts to a friend’s company.KMGH-TV is reporting that Adams County Public Works Director Lee Asay has been placed on paid leave while the county and the sheriff’s office investigates contracts he awarded without a competitive bid to Quality Paving and Quality Resurfacing. KMGH says Jerry Rhea is Asay’s friend and the president of the construction company.KMGH says records they’ve reviewed show the company received more than $54 million in contracts from the county since 1998 and that $12 million came without a competitive bid.County Administrator Jim Robinson says Asay was placed on leave and the allegations have been forwarded to the sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office.
