Adamses shouldn’t take the rap for school decision

I am proud to be the parent of two Summit School District students. Over the past five years, I have enjoyed volunteering a great deal of my time in our various schools. My reward for this has been to get to know many wonderful teachers and dedicated staff members personally. This being said, I think I should tell you where I was and who I was with this past Saturday morning. I was attending a committee meeting for the Summit Catholic Community’s Religious Education Program along with fellow committee member, Stuart Adams. Stuart volunteers his time to our Sunday school program as the eighth-grade teacher, even though his daughter, Emily, doesn’t attend this school. His daughter, in fact, is an assistant teacher for the kindergarten class at our Sunday school program.Emily, a beautiful, independent-minded young woman, feels her choice of attending the Vail Mountain School is the right one for her, as she expressed in the Summit Daily’s front page article on Sept. 20. Her father, Stuart, is dedicated to his work on our Summit School Board, and is passionate about his volunteer service to the children of Summit County regardless of the fact that he doesn’t have children in our system.Stuart and his wife, Lori, are decent, hard-working Summit County residents who should not, in any way, be perceived as vain or privileged. Please don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. As I see it, Vail Mountain School is not the enemy.
