Ads did not fit vision of Breckenridge

Irrespective of the decisions that went into creating and placing the “bitch” ad, I wish to thank Mayor Sam Mamula and Mr. Roger McCarthy for the decision to remove it from publication wherever it can be removed.

Now let’s turn our attention to moving forward so these kinds of things do not occur again. Specifically, I propose a joint meeting with members of the Breckenridge Town Council, top management of the Breckenridge Ski Resort, and Mr. Jeff Martin, from McClain Finlon, the agency which created the ad.

Let’s be more precise. Over the past year, the town of Breckenridge community has developed The town of Breckenridge Vision Plan. This plan, which has been very well covered by the Summit Daily News, defines the Values of the town of Breckenridge and specifies 10 vision statements – all of which are meant to guide decisions about our future.

One of these, the Economic Viability/Sustainability Vision Statement calls for a “strong and sustainable year- round economy insured through partnerships with resort operators.”

The town of Breckenridge Vision Plan would be discussed and explained at the meeting. The foundation of a true “partnership” would be developed based on a full understanding, if not total agreement of the plan. After the meeting, all participants would thoroughly understand what this community’s preferred future looks like socially, economically, and environmentally. The participants would know what the community’s shared values and purpose are and how to make decisions which consider all 10 of the Vision Statements.

A foundation would be created for the development of more appropriate ads and all could move forward knowing what the impact of their decisions and actions would be.
