A&E briefs: Colorado Barbecue Challenge Father’s Day Contest opens
Colorado BBQ Challenge Father’s Day Contest opens
Whether dad is a barbecue master or his grill collects dust, everyone can agree that all dads deserve to have someone else do the barbecuing once in a while. So once again this year, the Frisco Colorado BBQ Challenge is sponsoring a contest to find a dad deserving of a chance to kick back during the 23rd annual Frisco Colorado BBQ Challenge and enjoy some barbecue and quality time with the family. The BBQ Challenge happens over Father’s Day each year, and this year’s BBQ Challenge dates are June 16 for the kickoff concert and June 17 and 18 for the BBQ Challenge. To enter the BBQ Challenge’s Father’s Day contest, youth 16 and under must submit a short essay describing why their dad is worthy of a free barbecue-filled weekend in Frisco.
Interested participants may enter the contest at http://www.FriscoBBQ.com with an essay which is no more than 600 words. The essay should describe what your dad means to you and why he deserves a weekend at the Frisco BBQ Challenge. The winner will receive lodging for two nights, June 17 and 18, in a two-bedroom condominium courtesy of Mountain Managers, $100 worth of Hogbacks (official currency of the Colorado Barbecue Challenge) and two tickets to Friday night’s Rub It, Smoke It, Sip It, Whiskey Tour courtesy of the Breckenridge Distillery. All essays must be submitted by midnight on Friday, May 6.
“The BBQ Challenge is an event that inspires family, friends and community to get together over great food on Father’s Day weekend. So it really is the ideal setting to celebrate dads and the ‘every day’ heroic things they do for their families and community,” said Lea Chandonnet, town of Frisco events coordinator, in a statement
The 2016 Frisco Colorado BBQ Challenge not only offers barbecue and great entertainment, but also seven bands playing on the Main Street stage Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the Bacon Burner, a 6K run, on Saturday. Attendees can purchase Hogbacks, Frisco’s barbecue currency, to pay for food and drinks and use them at participating retail stores and restaurants along Main Street throughout the event and weekend.

Local musician Len Rhodes releases book
Local musician Len Rhodes recently released “A New Dictionary of Composers.” Currently available on Amazon, this composer dictionary is the result of many years of researching the dates and nationalities of composers in the serious music genre. Listing the composers both chronologically, and also in a separate alphabetical listing, enables the reader to access information quickly. Every attempt has been made at the time of printing to establish the accuracy of the listings.
“My goal in compiling this book is to provide a complete, accurate and easy reference regarding the timelines, dates and nationalities of the more than twenty-two hundred composers listed,” Rhodes said in a statement. “With regard to the “nationalities” of the composers, I determined their country of birth to be the conclusive factor. A great many composers made their reputations elsewhere; however, I feel it is important to identify, where reliable sources are available, the composer’s actual country of origin.”
