Ali Hasan: Proud of my record
It was great to announce our campaign in Frisco, as I consider Summit County to be home. The editor of the Summit Daily, Alex Miller, wrote a column Friday, with some points that I wanted to set straight:
1. It was written by Miller that “Even though Hasan had a seemingly unlimited campaign war chest, Scanlan kept her cool and defeated him handily.” I congratulated Rep. Scanlan on her win and was quick to offer help on any issue. With that said, “handily” is an unfair description of how the race fared. My campaign won Eagle County and had the highest totals for a contested Republican in Summit and Lake, outperforming the John McCain and Bob Schaffer statewide Republican campaigns by around 10 percent. In addition, 527 groups like Accountability For Colorado spent around $500,000, according to our estimations of Secretary of State expenditure records, in defending Christine Scanlan – well above any personal money I placed into the race. With that said, we ran a terrific race and I am proud of the 47 percent our campaign received.
2. The second sentence mentioned was, “…especially given that nothing in Hasan’s resume suggests he has much in the way of financial or leadership experience.” I have ran my own small business film production company, Rabia LLC, based here in Colorado, since 2006. The films I have developed under Rabia LLC have won over 35 awards, in both film directing and screenwriting. When we have made a film, I have had to meet payroll on those projects, individually, and be accountable for making sure that my books are balanced properly. Lastly, my annual reports for Rabia LLC can be found at Colorado’s Secretary of State website. With that in mind, I am deeply proud of my financial and managerial background and I believe it is time that we put a small business owner in to run our State Treasury.
3. The statement, “It’s hard to imagine the state GOP being too excited about this development …” is again, inaccurate. I am proud to share that Republican Minority Leader Mike May has endorsed our campaign and I deeply cherish his endorsement.
The future is never known, but history cannot hide from facts – I am proud of both my political and business accomplishments, and I’m going to work very hard to win the trust of every voter, statewide, in pursuing the State Treasurer position.
