In keeping with Alpenglow’s principal festival goal of bringing to Summit County the greatest masterworks of the chamber music repertoire performed to the highest level, the concert on Tuesday even exceeded that expectation. Piano trio and quartet works from Mendelssohn, Khachaturian, Clark and Dvorak were performed with “passionato,” “expressione” and “vigoroso” by Rieko Aizawa, returning to the festival for the 14th consecutive year, on the piano; Jesse Mills on violin; Dov Scheindlin on viola; James Wilson on cello; and Igor Begelamn on clarinet as invited performers. Each of these performers has appeared in recitals and music festivals throughout the nation and internationally, being prize winners in music competitions and recipients of awards from major music societies and symphony orchestras. In the ensembles performed at this concert, their singing instrumental tones and soulful approach to music was brought to the highest level, with the interweaving of rhythms and classic melodies within each composition reaching high levels of appreciation and into the inner conscience of all those attending. At 7 tonight at Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Dillon, the opportunity is open for all to hear this astounding consort in a follow-up performance. Mozart’s Trio “Kegelstaff” for clarinet, viola, and piano; Moravee’s “Tempest Fantasy” for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano; Kodaly’s Intermezzo for violin, viola, and cello; and, the Piano quartet #1 of Johannas Brahms will be performed. In addition to the high level of music expressed in the playing of each instrument and the resulting blend of astounding tonal harmonies, those attending will also experience the sense of intimacy and interactions with the musicians and the superb acoustics afforded by the space in the church sanctuary. All are encouraged to attend; no one will be disappointed.
