Last weekend, six members of the Alpine Vibes, Alpine Dance Academy’s competitive dance company, competed in L.A. Dance Magic’s regional competition. More than 15 studios throughout Colorado and Arizona competed Saturday.

Bailee Campbell won a platinum award for her solo. She also won third place overall high score for the entire senior division, which includes all dancers 14 and older.

Jordan Brewer, Katie Shell and Ariel Johnston garnered gold awards for each of their solos, and Katarina Jackman and Jenna Rodger won gold for their duet. As a group, the Alpine Vibes also placed gold for their routine, featuring six dancers.

Platinum is the highest reward, with high gold, gold, high silver, silver and bronze following. Judging is based on a number of points, deducted or assigned to routines based on a range of elements, from technique and precision to stage presence and costuming.

The weekend event also included master classes by Los Angeles’ top teachers, dancers and choreographers, many of whom no longer teach in studios due to their schedules working in film, on Broadway and in Las Vegas, said Kelly Monahon, director of Alpine Dance Academy.
