Amanda Woodbury: Park County needs a non-Bailey commissioner

The election process is swiftly progressing towards the crucial primary election August 10. The choice of Republicans will be determined soon after the May 27 deadline for petitions has passed. I know Samantha Bertin is working hard out there, meeting people and gathering signatures, because I have been helping her as much as I can. I’m sure Mark Dowaliby is busily filling his own pages, too. Monica Jones is most likely also canvassing the county for her sheets as well. You can only sign one of these petitions, but every signature helps ensure that we will have a choice for our own commissioner.

We need one who can stand up to the all-powerful northern part of the county, which has two seated commissioners. We need our Commissioner to be looking out for our interests and our needs, over and above those in other areas. South of Kenosha, Alma, Fairplay, Hartsel, Como, Jefferson, Lake George, Guffey and all the rural areas in between are in District 3.

There are no Democrat choices. I would like to suggest that disappointed independents and even Democrats take the time to go on line to Colorado Secretary of State and change your affiliation so that you can participate in choosing our next commissioner. There is a 29-day waiting period before each election. We need to inspire everyone to register and vote. We need to have the best turnout at the August primary that we have ever had, in order to out number the other districts prescribed choice for us. Every Republican vote in District 3 needs to be cast in August.

We want our commissioner to live and work here and to have a vested interest in what happens up here. We do not want to elect another commissioner for Bailey.
