Amend the smoking ban if business is so bad

I am disappointed that the smoking ban is not being amended immediately if it is having such a negative impact on local businesses, not to mention making some visitors unhappy. It seems clear that smokers are avoiding these establishments, and the hoped-for nonsmokers have not materialized as new customers.Furthermore, the argument that the smoking ban provides a safer work environment does not convince me. People are free to choose where they work. For example, some nurses choose to work with high-risk patients, roofers choose to work on roofs in dangerous conditions, asbestos-removal workers choose to remove this potentially dangerous mineral, some ski patrol workers choose to play with dynamite, etc.Restaurant and bar employees are free to choose employment elsewhere. As a nonsmoker, I hope the county commissioners act to amend the smoking ban and place the issue on the ballot at a more convenient time. The loss of jobs and sales only will be exacerbated with the upcoming ski season and influx of tourists, especially Europeans who are not subjected to many smoking bans at home. If we leave a bad impression on our visitors this winter, even if we amend the smoking ban later, it may be too late to get them to return to Summit County again in the future.
