An open letter to Summit Daily News

With all information that has been provided by you on the closing of the Dillon Dam Road reference the the Denver Water Board has been just that. A couple names of “spokesperson” came up, but I have seen no real information as to any history of, or the composition of the Denver Water Board.

These are people who have been making decisions that have greatly affected our lives. In the act of informing your reader about the DWB, I have five questions that I hope you could get the answers to.

What exactly is the composition of positions in the Denver Water Board?

Who are the people that fill those positions?

Who do they answer to?

How are they chosen to serve on the Denver Water Board?

Are there any educational or other requirements to fill the positions?

I believe that the general public of Summit County might have a better grip on the position we stand with Denver Water if we had the answers to these questions.

Good questions. The Denver Mayor appoints the Denver Water Board’s five commissioners, who serve staggered six-year terms. The board is responsible for ensuring a continuous supply of water to the City and County of Denver and the nearly 50 percent of Denver Water customers who live in the surrounding suburbs, all of which involves issues of water collection, storage, quality control, distribution, conservation and pricing. Board members range from those with years of water experience to those with very little.
