Annual Lighting of Dillon, Festival of Lights begin Thursday, Dec. 4

The annual Lighting of Dillon will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at its new location at the Dillon Community Church, 371 La Bonte St. in Dillon. The event includes kids’ crafts and activities, snacks and beverages and photos with Santa.

“As always, we are excited to bring the community together for this awesome family event and really kick off the holiday season,” Dillon Mayor Kevin Burns said. “We hope to see all of Summit County there.”

Kids’ crafts, reindeer antlers and Santa hats will all be available, along with other free goodies from the Dillon business community, Alpine Bank and Colorado Mountain College. Pug Ryan’s Brewing Co. will provide hot dogs and hot cider, and Lake Dillon Tavern will be serving up pizza. There will also be free cookies and coffee.


The Dillon Business Association will kick off its Festival of Lights series of free family events on Friday, Dec. 5, continuing for three Fridays through Dec. 19. From 5:30 to 7 p.m. each week at Dillon Town Park, there will be a bonfire, visits from Santa, sing-alongs with the Summit Choral Society, hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The Festival of Lights also includes a handful of special events. On Friday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., children of all ages will shout with laughter at “Santa’s Christmas Puppet Show” at the Lake Dillon Theatre (176 Lake Dillon Dr.). On Friday, Dec. 12, and Friday, Dec. 19, at 5 p.m., the “Merry Melodies & Elf Show,” featuring Santa’s elves, will provide music before the bonfire in the park.

Residences and businesses within Dillon town limits are also invited to participate in a holiday lighting contest throughout the festival. Register for the competition by emailing, and view and vote for your favorite light display on the Dillon Business Association website at Everyone can vote up to one time per day until voting ends on Saturday, Jan. 10, with winners announced Thursday, Jan. 15.
