Appeals court set to hear case over snowmaking at Ariz. Snowbowl

PHOENIX ” A federal appeals court is set to hear arguments Tuesday as it reconsiders its earlier ruling barring snowmaking at the Arizona Snowbowl resort north of Flagstaff.

The full 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the case in Pasadena, Calif. The court decided to revisit the case after Snowbowl’s owners and the federal government urged it to reconsider.

A three-judge panel in March blocked the resort’s plan to expand and add snowmaking equipment that would use treated wastewater.

The panel was acting on a suit filed by American Indian tribes who consider the San Francisco Peaks sacred.
