Approve the gondola project
Maintaining our environment and having open space is essential to the quality of life for the residents of Breckenridge and Summit County. Having pristine open space is something we moved here to enjoy. My concerns are about the debate over the proposed gondola project by the Breckenridge Ski Resort and the perhaps emotional response of folks who have 3seen a lot of elk in the gulch. May I suggest to you that your decision be based on science, not on emotion. The SAIC report is written in generalizations with little supporting scientific data. The IRIS report seems to be based in science. When determining if there would be substantial degradation to wildlife in an area, logic would demand one look at the environment surrounding the area and all the species represented. Then, one could note any impacts to those species and analyze the consequences of any impacts. The generalizations of 3wildlife put forth by SAIC seems to cover unknown, non-specific species that lives, could live, may have lived or might possibly want to live in the PMA. The IRIS report does not find 3substantial degradation to the PMA.Tom Day1s point regarding people with physical challenges being able to view the area also should be taken into consideration. Some of us are unable to cross-country ski, or hike or wheel uneven ground. This could be an asset to the town to allowing viewing of a high alpine wetland<an opportunity certain physical challenges may not otherwise allow.Approval of the gondola project might even offer a unique educational opportunity for our community. Approval would allow many people with or without physical challenges to experience the gulch with no physical impacts on the gulch.I1ve read both reports. I recommend the commission make a logical decision. I can only conclude that the gondola project be approved.Karlene WhiteBreckenridge
