Deputies from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by officers from the Frisco Police Department, Friday apprehended a man suspected of robbing a grocery store in Independence, Missouri. Gilbert Millette-Francois, age 20, was sought in connection with an armed robbery that took place at the Hy-Vee grocery store in Independence, MO early Thursday morning. The suspect was apprehended at approximately 3 a.m. Friday.
Summit County Dispatch was notified by the Independence, MO Police Department at approximately 2:20am that a possible armed robbery suspect was en route to Summit County via westbound I-70. The suspect was being tracked by cell phone triangulation from cell phone towers, also referred to as “pinging.”
Based on the “ping” locations, SCSO Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Greyhound bus just west of Exit 203, near Frisco. The driver and eight passengers were ordered off the bus, and Millette-Francois, identified using a photo of the robbery suspect, was taken into custody. A phone call to the suspect’s cell phone also rang through to the phone in Millette-Francois’ pocket, aiding in his identification.
Millette-Francois was transported to the Summit County Detentions Facility, where he is being held without bond pending an extradition hearing.
