Arrest shortens late-night meal in Breck

Daily News staff report

BRECKENRIDGE – Police arrested a man early Thursday for breaking into the Crepes A La Cart wagon on Main Street so he could cook himself a meal.

Justin Kirkegaard, 18, of Iowa was charged in the incident for burglary, theft, resisting arrest and underage consumption of alcohol.

Police reported that town employee Jason Poprocki tipped them to the incident at about 2:20 a.m.

Poprocki was a middle man between the police and an unidentified woman who approached him and told him about the break-in at the take-out dining cart at 307 S. Main St.

When the officer arrived at Crepes A La Cart, he saw Kirkegaard inside the structure cooking, police said. Kirkegaard saw the officer and ran out the side door toward the ally behind the building.

The officer chased Kirkegaard and arrested him.

During the investigation, officers found the front window to the restaurant broken and food on the stove.
