Arts and Entertainment briefs: Backstage’s Kidsplay presents magical tales

The Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge is proud to present two performances from its popular Kidsplay workshops, performed by the talented young actors and actresses in Summit County, on March 14 and 15 at the Breckenridge Theatre.This year, the students have been working to prepare a collection of stories entitled “Magical Tales From Africa.” In these captivating and comic stories from across the globe, we are introduced to the tricky Mouse Deer, we learn why Rabbit has long ears and a short tail, and we are transported to the days when Rooster was the King of the Jungle. Workshop instructor is Laura “Faith” Moore who directs and will introduce the programs. The students are creating their own sets and costumes for the production. Performances are on Sunday, March 14 at 2 p.m. and Monday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at the Breckenridge Theatre, located at 121 S. Ridge St., Breckenridge. Come enjoy the spirit of outdoor adventure at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour at the Riverwalk Center.Breckenridge Ascent Series March 24 and 31: Head up the Breckenridge Ski Resort for an evening hill climb event starting at the bottom of Peak 8 at 5:30 p.m. and finishing at the Vista Haus. Use any kind of way to get up the mountain, but skis or a snowboard are required to come back down.A family-friendly ski movie will show at the Speakeasy Movie Theater in Breckenridge Sunday, March 28. Fourteen galleries in Breckenridge participate in the Second Saturday Art Walk. Most galleries feature an artist or event and they serve some sort of refreshments. The Breckenridge Music Festival/Applause! Gala 2010 has been announced: Sneakin’ & Sippin’ at the Speakeasy, a roaring 1920’s gala, will be held Friday, July 30 at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge. The evening of silent and live auctions, dining, and dancing to popular Denver band, “Heartbeat,” is sure to be the cat’s pajamas. Funds raised by the event help support the many concerts and educational programs of the Breckenridge Music Festival throughout the year.
