Aspen Filmfest sponsor shuffles top managers

ASPEN – Aspen Film, sponsor of the Aspen Filmfest, is reshuffling its top management.

Executive Director Laura Thielen is moving into the new position of artistic director, and a new executive director will be hired to focus on fundraising and general management.

Thielen, who has been executive director for 15 years, says she’s been thinking about the move since last summer.

Peter Louras, president of Aspen Film’s board of directors, says the nonprofit needed someone full-time in both the artistic and management jobs.

He says fundraising is a challenge in a down economy with competition from more than 300 registered nonprofits in the Roaring Fork River Valley.

The group will stage the 32nd annual Aspen Filmfest Sept. 29-Oct. 3.
