Members of the math department at Summit High School continue to make themselves available to all students by offering after school tutoring on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is why I have chosen them as Asset Builders of the Month.

Everyone in the math department participates, rotating the days. Rain or shine, activity or not, Debbie McAllister, Mary Soya, Angelia Rosende, Jennifer Arias, Kristin Yankowski and Dylan Nicoletti are there until 4 p.m. offering their knowledge to every student who enters their doors. These teachers have really accelerated their efforts to encourage all students to keep trying, no matter how hard it seems. Learning is a process and doesn’t always come easy. I am so honored to work with colleagues that address this challenge in such a positive, caring atmosphere.

Senior math student Finley Balma has received countless hours of help from these dedicated teachers.”When a normal 90-minute class period was not enough time for me to learn the information, Mrs. Rosende helped me for numerous extra hours, or until I was confident in what I was learning,” Balma said. “She always goes the extra mile to make sure I understand the math skills needed to succeed.”

Any Summit County community member has the opportunity to nominate an outstanding asset builder in our community to receive the Asset Builder of the Month Award. – Jeri Nudell, paraprofessional at SHS Tiger Lab
