Auditions wrapping up for 2007 NRO season

Special to the Daily

More than 700 musicians hoping to get a seat in the National Repertory Orchestra came to one of 16 auditions held all over the country and in Canada over the last two months. Wrapping up this weekend at the University of Michigan, NRO Maestro Carl Topilow will select 86 people through 10-minute performance auditions to participate in the symphonic orchestral experience in Summit County.

For those selected, the NRO provides a tuition-free internship that affords its members the opportunity to perform an extensive repertoire during the eight-week season. Coaching, master classes, career development seminars and chamber music supplement the orchestral experience. Orchestra members are provided a modest travel allowance as well as room and board in Breckenridge.

Founded in 1960, the mission of the National Repertory Orchestra is to prepare musicians ages 18-28 for careers with professional symphony orchestras.
