Audubon bird count Dec. 30

Daily News staff report

Summit County birders will participate in the National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count Dec. 30.

Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Summit County Community and Senior Center at the County Commons near Frisco. The group will divide into teams and set out to cover areas around Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne and Dillon. They will count the numbers and species of birds in a 15-mile area.

Information gathered will help local and national wildlife biologists track trends in bird populations and in the general health of our environment.

The count is open to birders of all skill levels. A $5 Audubon participation fee will be collected for adults over 18.

Binoculars are needed. For information, contact Shannon at (970) 262-9316.
