What: Author and attorney Manuel Ramos signs and reads from his new novel, “Desperado: A Mile High Noir”
Award-winning Denver writer and attorney Manuel Ramos is the director of advocacy for Colorado Legal Services, the statewide legal aid program, and the author of eight published novels, five of which feature Denver lawyer character Luis Montez.
Ramos will read from and sign his new novel, “Desperado: A Mile High Noir” (Arte Publico), on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Main Library in Frisco.
Ramos’ book is a gripping murder mystery, based in Denver, that twists and turns like a rollercoaster, where the outlook is grim and there’s no honor among thieves. His fiction has garnered the Colorado Book Award, the Chicano/Latino Literary Award, Top Hand Award from the Colorado Authors League and three honorable mentions from the Latino International Book Awards.
His published works also include several short stories, poems, nonfiction articles and a handbook on Colorado landlord-tenant law, now in a sixth edition.
Ramos is co-founder of and regular contributor to La Bloga (www.labloga.blogspot.com), an award-winning Internet magazine devoted to Latino literature, culture, news and opinion.
His current project is a collection of short stories scheduled for publication in 2015. For his professional and community service, Ramos has received many awards, including the Colorado Bar Association’s Jacob V. Schaetzel Award, the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association’s Chris Miranda Award and the Spirit of Tlatelolco Award.
