Avalanche report to be unveiled today

ARAPAHOE BASIN – The U.S. Forest Service will release details today from its investigation into May’s fatal, inbounds avalanche at Arapahoe Basin.According to Kristi Ponozzo, public affairs specialist for the Forest Service, the regional accident investigation team finished its report this week. The Forest Service is first letting the family and the resort know about the report before giving the information to the public, Ponozzo said.The Forest Service will hold a press conference today at 2:30 p.m. at the Dillon District Office located at 680 Blue River Parkway.The investigation began on May 22. Three days earlier, Boulder resident David Conway, 53, died after a slide swept him down the Pallavicini area. The coroner ruled Conway died of head injuries.The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reported this was the first avalanche fatality at a ski area since Jan. 9, 1975.
