Avy center starts forecasting, accepts new memberships

The forecast center delivers daily or twice-per-day reports that include a weather synopsis, weather forecast, snowpack discussion and will soon include avalanche danger levels for backcountry users.According to forecaster Scott Toepfer, many residents who don’t travel in the backcountry use the service for its accurate weather forecasts. Annual membership costs $30 for one daily report and $45 for two. To join, mail a check to CAIC, 325 Broadway WSI, Boulder 80305. Include name, mailing address, email address and a telephone number. Credit card orders are not accepted.The forecast center’s free telephone reports are expected to begin by mid November.
