Backstage Theatre still seeking for ‘Wizard of Oz,’ including Toto

BRECKENRIDGE ” The Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge is seeking men and women (and a little dog, too) for their community-wide Labor Day production of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz.” This is the Royal Shakespeare Company version which is patterned closely after the MGM motion picture.

To be cast are male and female chorus members to play an assortment of characters including Munchkins (on skateboards), Ozians, etc. The theater is also looking for technical help ” people to design and build properties, and help on line sets to fly the witch, Glinda, monkeys, etc.

The Backstage is also seeking one lucky dog to play the part of Toto.

Auditions are ongoing. Appointments cab be made by calling the Backstage Theatre at (970) 453-0199. Those auditioning should prepare a verse and chorus from the musical and a short story told as a character from the play. (For example, The Wicked Witch telling a bedtime story).

This production will be directed by Wendy Moore. Musical direction is by Caroline Foley. Choreography is by Dustin Murphy.

Rehearsals for “The Wizard of Oz” begin this month. Performances are over Labor Day, Aug. 29-31 at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge.
