Baldy Blast has been cancelled

BRECKENRIDGE – War, road closures, avalanche danger and a gas and food shortage are being blamed for the cancellation of the Baldy Blast, originally scheduled for today.

An informal gathering will take place at the end of French Gulch Road, and people who still want to snowshoe or ski the 21-kilometer Baldy Blast race will take off as planned at 9 a.m. The shorter, 5-kilometer snowshoe race, the Sally Barber Stomp, will leave the staging area at 10 a.m.

The races are a fundraiser for the Chris Ethridge Scholarship Fund. Ethridge, a 10-year veteran at the Red, White and Blue Fire Department in Breckenridge, died in a hit-and-run accident in Boulder County in 2001.

Money from the fund is given to students pursuing a career in emergency services. A donation booth will be at the site for those wishing to contribute to the fund.
