Baldy Blast set for Saturday

The Red, White and Blue Fire Department’s Baldy Blast and Sally Barber Stomp have been postponed after the recent death of firefighter Barrie Niebergall.

The fundraiser is now slated to take place Saturday.

The fourth annual Baldy Blast, a 21-kilometer backcountry race, and the 5- and 10-kilometer Sally Barber Stomp, are fundraisers for the Christopher Ethridge Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Online registration for both events is open at the Great Adventure Sports Web site, or in person at the store at 400 North Park Ave. or the Red, White, and Blue Fire Station at 316 North Main St. in Breckenridge.

Ethridge, a 10-year veteran on the fire department and co-owner of Great Adventure Sports, was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Front Range in October 2001.

Those interested in volunteering at the events can leave a message at Great Adventure Sports at (970) 453-0333.

Baldy Blast whole bean coffee is also available for purchase at the fire station, Great Adventure Sports and Amazing Grace. The cost is $11.95 a pound, and all proceeds benefit the Christopher Ethridge Memorial Scholarship Fund.
