SUMMIT COUNTY ” The sexual-assault case against a former Keystone bar employee has gone to jury today after a three-day trail in Summit County District Court.

Eric Taylor, an employee at the Goat Soup and Whiskey, is accused of a Jan. 12 attack of a patron in an employees-only bathroom

District Attorney Mark Hurlbert described the alleged assault as a vicious act, graphically describing a scene in which Taylor allegedly forced the woman to have sex with him while grabbing her by the throat.

“Mr. Taylor physically held her down, strangled her and sexually assaulted

her,” Hurlbert said as he addressed the jury while holding up a photograph

of the victim’s neck with visible scratches. “This is not the face of

consent. This is assault.”

In his closing statements, defense attorney Dale McPhetres urged the jury to

remember that the alleged victim was intoxicated while at the bar that

night, and medical records showed her blood-alcohol content was far over the

legal limit some four hours after the incident.

“This is not a criminal mastermind here,” McPhetres said referring to his

client. “This started out as a consensual act and then, when the two were

discovered in the bathroom, things changed.”
