Barbara Goldsby: Touched by community support for Avon Walk

I would like to take the time to thank the Town of Breckenridge for hosting the closing ceremonies for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The welcome we received as we headed down Main Street was indescribable! I have participated in the Avon Walk for eight years, and this year’s “last mile” was one of the most awe-inspiring, emotional moments I’ve encountered on the walk. After walking 40 miles, the clapping and cheering made me feel like I could run a marathon!

I truly hope that this “closing of Main Street” can become an annual event, just like the Avon Walk. Although I’m sure it causes some inconvenience, the awareness that you brought to the public far outweighs the inconvenience. I would also like to thank you for the coverage of the event in your paper. Sixteen-hundred walkers raising $2.6 million and being a part of that – whether as a participant or spectator – nobody walks away without being touched! Thank you!
