Beanpole project to be reviewed

BRECKENRIDGE – The Board of County Commissioners Monday will review progress of the $456,000 project to bring Summit County into the world of high-speed telecommunications.

The commissioners will meet with representatives of the Summit County Telecommunications Consortium and Peak Speed Communications in a worksession.

The discussion is scheduled for 10 a.m. Although commissioner worksessions do not feature public comment, the meeting is open to observation by the public.

The telecommunications consortium awarded a contract to Peak Speed as part of the statewide beanpole project. The state project provides grant money to rural communities to develop high-speed telecommunications infrastructure in hopes of facilitating data-sharing between government agencies and promoting business opportunities related to technology, as well as providing better Internet access for consumers.
