Beauprez all but formally announces bid for governor

DENVER ” After two terms in Congress, Republican Bob Beauprez said he has become convinced he would have a better chance to improve conditions in Colorado from the governor’s mansion.

Beauprez on Friday made it clear he planned to run to replace term-limited GOP Gov. Bill Owens in 2006. He said his time in Washington has been more rewarding than expected, but he likes the idea of putting his “fingerprints” on and being the voice of Colorado.

“It’s my perception that maybe we’ve not fully in the past taken advantage of our governor as the chief advocate for Colorado in D.C.,” Beauprez said in a telephone interview from New York. “I’m convinced that as governor, I can have a whole lot of influence in Colorado on the issues as well as on appropriations.”
