Big Armed Forces Day rally is today


Tim Gurule, father of a local soldier in the U.S. Army Rangers program, is organizing an Armed Forces Day rally and barbecue for today, from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Elks Club in Silverthorne.Military recruiters from every branch of the armed services will attend, and a number of “assets” are likely to be on display.Everyone is welcome to attend, and – importantly – donations will be taken to send “packages from home” to our troops. Call Gurule at (970) 389-6846 if you can help out in any way.Also planned for the day:- Paige Nance, mother of two Marines, and her daughter-in-law Randi Brauch, will be coordinating letter writing to troops overseas. They’ll have paper, stamps and envelopes on hand for people to write and send letters to servicemen and women around the world.- Around 3 p.m., a number of buglers will play “Taps” as part of a worldwide coordination of the song.
