Name of business: Oasis 9600Name of owner: Shannon GalpinAddress of business: 1790 Airport Rd., BreckenridgeTelephone number: (970) 453 5563Date opened: Nov. 11Q: What type of business do you operate – what do you sell, or what service do you provide?

A. Oasis 9600 is a cooperative movement and wellness center. Our movement studio consists of a fully equipped Pilates studio including reformer classes, wall unit classes, mat classes, and private machine training. It also provides a diverse yoga program, specialty workshops in Qi Gong, Feldenkreis and Gyrokinesis. The wellness center consists of four therapy rooms that provide acupuncture, massage therapy, Rolfing Structural Integration, and spa services.Q: Where are you from, and why did you decide to open your business in Summit County?A. I am from all over, originally from North Dakota, I spent 10 years living and working in Europe working as a Pilates trainer and conditioning specialist. My husband and I love the mountains and Breckenridge was perfect fit. We have wanted to open a high altitude training center for years and this evolved naturally with a functional wellness component that works well in a mountain community where health and wellness is a priority.Q: What experience do you have in this field?A. I have lived and worked all over the world, including Germany, France, Great Britain and Lebanon as a Pilates trainer and conditioning specialist. My varied training background also includes sports therapy and has allowed me to work with a variety of clientele, from rehab patients to professional athletes. I spent six years running my own business consulting with coaches and athletes and speaking at physiotherapy conferences.

Q: What sets your business apart from other similar businesses?A. Our center is the first, and only, cooperative movement and wellnesscenter in Summit County. We are uniting the professionals operating within Summit County under one roof in the belief that there is strength in unity. We are able to provide a unique environment for the therapists and customers not only in our services, but also in the design. In addition, we will be working with professional adventurists like Ellen Miller to run specialty clinics introducing athletes into new sports.Q: What types of customers do you hope to reach in Summit County?A. We are working to let the locals know that we are here and have something very special to offer them. Most of our therapists and trainers already have an established clientele in Summit County. Many locals will know the professionals that are working from within Oasis 9600, such as: Summit Pilates and Movement Arts, Tadasana Yoga, T’ai Shan Medicine, A Wrinkle in Time, as well the names of many of our individual therapists.

Q: Why did you choose to open where you did?A. We chose our opening along Airport road for a couple of reasons. The first being its access to Breckenridge and Frisco residents alike. The second is parking. Parking along Main Street can be difficult during peak times and peak seasons, at our location we have on site, free parking. A huge benefit! Lastly, our property has so much natural light and other features that would have been near impossible along Main Street. The character of our ‘oasis’ was able to develop due to the location.Q: What are your plans for your company’s future?A. In the future we will be continuing to expand our program base to includecoaching clinics for amateur and professional sports teams, movement and spa retreats, and an adventure program.
