Bizline: Michael Boyett Gallery

Special to the Daily

Q What type of business do you operate – what do you sell, or what service do you provide?A Michael Boyett Gallery is a unique gallery for Breckenridge. We specialize in limited edition bronze and pewter sculptures, as well as original oil paintings and fine giclee prints – our American Heritage themes range from Native American to Western, wildlife, Civil War, military and biblical. This fall we are adding a new miniature wildlife sculpture collection as well as a series depicting the sportsmen of the Rockies – skiers, fly fishermen, etc. More information may be found at our website: Q Where are you from, and why did you decide to open your business in Summit County?A My wife and I are from Nacogdoches, Texas, where I am still currently operating an art studio and casting foundry. We chose Summit County for our gallery for several reasons: It has a growing reputation for being an excellent art community, because as a resort destination, the tourist traffic (Front Range, national and international) is great and last, but not least, we personally love the mountains and the asthetics of this beautiful area.Q What experience do you have in this field?A I have been a full-time professional sculptor and artist for about 30 years. My work has been produced and marketed nationally and internationally in both the fine art market as well as the retail gift market. My sculptures and paintings have been displayed in over 200 retail dealerships as well as numerous galleries and museums. I have owned and operated my own foundry since 1988, and since 2002 I have been involved in sculpting and producing monumental bronze sculptures.Q What sets your business apart from other similar businesses? A Summit County has several very fine art galleries, but I believe that ours is unique for a couple of different reasons. Because this is a “Signature” gallery, my work is the only artwork showcased; therefore we can personally guarantee that it is all original art, the limited editions are strictly enforced and of course, we do our utmost to insure the finest work possible in our castings and giclee prints. In addition, because many of our sculptures are produced in both fine pewter and classic hot pour bronze, we have a wide range of prices. Our sculptures and paintings range in price from those of a high end gift line to museum quality fine art.Q What types of customers do you hope to reach in Summit County?A Because of our diverse subject matter and wide range of prices, we hope to appeal to many collectors. I think we have artwork that will appeal to the seasoned fine art collectors as well as to the general public who are beginning to develop an “artistic eye.”Q Why did you choose to open where you did?A We decided to have our gallery in Breckenridge at the Four Seasons Plaza near the Riverwalk because the location is convenient for both out-of-towners and local shoppers. Also, there are other great galleries in this area which help promote an artistic community feeling. Q What are your plans for your company’s future?A We are excited about many opportunities for our gallery and look forward to becoming established in the community. It is our hope that we will be opening other galleries in new locations in the future.
