Bizline: Summit Dancers is an after-school dance program and more

Special to the Daily

A: Summit Dancers is an, “at-school, after-school” dance program. Our participants have the opportunity to learn and perform a variety of dance styles at school and community events.

A:I’m originally from Dallas and have been living in Colorado about five years and in Summit County for three years. Speaking with community members, I was told that the after-school programs had been cut but the need for activities remains. My goal is to serve the parents and children of Summit Dancers with a convenient, fun and affordable program that will create memories they can carry with them for a lifetime.

A:Dancing from the age of three, I have experience in a variety of dance styles such as jazz, hip-hop, character and dance/drill. Since the age of 14, I’ve been teaching children the art of dance. In high school I served as an officer on the drill team. I’ve worked at a variety of dance studios throughout the Dallas metroplex, including Dallas Powerhouse of Dance. In 2005, I auditioned and was accepted to be a member of the Kilgore College Rangerettes. As a Rangerette, I performed on Carnival Cruise Lines, the Chicago McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day parade and community performances.

A:Summit Dancers encourages the importance of education, healthy eating and seeks to build character and memories for a lifetime. Our program consists of a snack, short study time and dancing all located at the schools of Summit County. This eliminates the need for after-school transportation and allows parents to finish their workday before returning to pick up their child.

A:Any parent with a child in school who wants their child to be active an involved instead of being home unattended and watching TV.

A:We hope to expand our program to all the elementary, middle and high schools in the near future.
