Bob Ravlin: We don’t need another pellet plant

Bob Ravlin
Vice president of sales and business development
Rocky Mountain Biofuels Company

This is a letter that I’d like to address to the Town Council of Breckenridge, primarily Mr. Dudick.

This is a prime example of an inexcusable lack of due diligence by our entrusted officials, in this case the Breckenridge Town Council. If a minimal amount of investigation was done by the council, it would have easily found out that two major wood pellet manufacturers were literally in their backyard. Between the two companies, the pellet production would easily exceed the requirements of the Town of Breckenridge.

Not only has our governor toured our manufacturing facilities: Our senators have done the same.

In these times, I do not understand the reasoning of trying to fund a new unproved company to enter a market that is already filled by not only one, but two world-class manufacturers based here in Colorado.

I apologize for my obvious frustration, but both our companies have developed very unique bonds with the local timber and Forest Service entities. We, as well as many U.S. manufacturers, have been struggling in this economic environment to market our products, let alone our abundant biomass supply throughout the U.S. and internationally.

When we hear of a community within an hour of our facilities wanting to support an unproven entity, then we have issue with that. It becomes clear that we need to educate the Town Council of Breckenridge. We invite all of you to tour our facilities and discover for yourself the abundant supply and capacity that Colorado has already to offer the Town of Breckenridge.
