Bob Rentschler dies at 68

Robert H. “Bob” Rentschler, 68 of Denver and formerly of Oley, Penn., passed away suddenly in Denver Feb. 25 of natural causes.

He was the husband of Georgine Olson. He was predeceased by his first wife, Linda.

Born in Ringtown, Penn., he was a son of Furhman and Gertrude (Williams) Rentschler. He graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a B.S. degree in health and physical education. He was a phys. ed. and health teacher in the Oley Valley School District for 33 years.

He coached the Oley Valley Baseball Team for 26 years, gaining 328 wins; four district titles and out of five appearances in the state tournament, coached the team to three state titles during his decorated coaching career.

He was inducted into the Berks County Sports Hall of Fame.

Upon retirement, he moved to Highlands Ranch, Colo., coaching youth baseball for 10 years and Summit County High School Baseball for one season.

Bob lived his life to the fullest, enjoying skiing, sailing, biking, camping, hiking and his family. He made an impact on every person his life affected.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kirk, and his wife, Jennifer, Lake City, Fla.; a daughter, Kristen, and her husband, John, Reading, Penn..

Other survivors include two sisters, Susan Drukker, and husband, Richard, Ringtown; and Gladys Rentschler, Reading; and a brother, Donald Rentschler, Ringtown.

He was predeceased by a brother, James.

Memorial service will be held in Friedens Lutheran Church, 1076 Memorial Highway, Oley, on Friday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the church.

Contributions to benefit the baseball program at Oley Valley High School can be made payable to the “Robert Rentschler Scholarship Fund” and mailed to National Penn Bank, 420 Main Street, Oley, PA 19547.
