Bob Shedd: Zipper lane questions

Bob Shedd
Breckenridge

In response to the “zipper lane” idea for I-70: Has anyone thought about the impact for westbound traffic on a stormy Saturday or Sunday afternoon when there are several slow-moving semis, or the fact that most of the time the lanes would be in use when it is snowing and probably below freezing – or what the impact is at the twin tunnels when you again funnel three lanes of traffic back into 2 lanes? I have seen the zipper lanes work really well on the Coronado Bridge in San Diego where it rarely snows and equally rarely gets below freezing. I hope the powers that be consider the impact this would have on traffic traveling both directions.
