Summit County Sheriff’s Office responds after hiker finds body in car near Officers Gulch off I-70
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating after a body was found in Officers Gulch off Interstate 70 on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Deputies responded to Officers Gulch around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday after a hiker discovered a man dead in his car, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a social media post. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered the body of a middle-aged white man inside a vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Summit County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the deceased individual, according to a news release, and the cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy.
The Sheriff’s Office said that a preliminary investigation indicates no elevated risk to the public and no connection with the other body discovered in Officers Gulch in October. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
In a statement, Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said, “Our deepest sympathies to the family and friends affected by this loss of life.”
