Body of young snowboarder found near Loveland Ski Area

GEORGETOWN ” A young boy with a church group from Central City, Nebraska, was killed snowboarding near Loveland Basin Ski Area, authorities said.

The boy and two friends took a lift to the top of a mountain Friday then climbed to a ridge, planning to slide through out-of-bounds terrain from the ski area to nearby Loveland Valley Ski area, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two of the boys, who ended up on a highway, notified authorities.

The Loveland Ski Patrol retraced their tracks and found the missing boy dead around 6:45 p.m, the sheriff’s office said.

Nebraska Christian School Superintendent Daniel Woods confirmed that one of his students, Chris Toukan, was the boy who died.

Woods said Toukan had been with a group from the Evangelical Free Church in Central City.

Toukan is the son of Mike and Laurel Toukan of Central City, Neb.

Clear Creek Sheriff’s Lt. Rick Albers said the boy had suffocated in deep snow.

The sheriff’s department wouldn’t release Toukan’s age because he is younger than 18.

Ski area officials did not immediately return phone calls.

The three boys were boarding in an area posted as dangerous.
