BOULDER – About 200 homes were ordered evacuated and a drinking-water facility was threatened in the mountains west of Boulder Wednesday as winds gusting to 50 mph fanned a wildfire in the Sunshine Canyon area.In eastern Colorado, a wildfire forced the closure of U.S. 34 between Eckley and Wray in Yuma County, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.Details of that fire were not immediately available. In Boulder, the blaze began about 12:30 p.m. and grew to about five acres within about three hours, said Boulder County wildland fire coordinator Justin Dombrowski.County authorities said the fire was about 75 percent contained, and the evacuation order had been lifted. He said firefighters from seven agencies were on hand, but he did not have an exact count.Dombrowski said besides threatening homes in the Sunshine and Pinebrook Hills areas, the flames also threatened a pumphouse for the Pinebrook Hills water supply. Winds had died down in the afternoon, and the fire had moved to a north-facing slope with higher moisture, helping ease concerns that it would spread further, he said.
