Breck approves new cop shop

BRECKENRIDGE ” The Breckenridge Town Council unanimously approved financing for a new police facility at a special meeting on Friday, after the contractor presented the final bids for the project.

The building will allow for growth of the police services for the next 25 to 30 years. Ground breaking is slated for sometime in late October.

Following a study, which looked at the adequacy of all town facilities, the police space was identified as the top facility in need of improvement. Currently the Police department is sandwiched into 2,500 square feet while 15,000 square feet is the recommended space needed for efficient operations.

Town Council deemed this a high priority, with the $3.9 million construction project slated to begin in October. The project consists of an 11,250-square-foot single story building to be constructed on a town-owned site on Valley Brook Road.
